Roman Polanski  
Roman POLANSKI was born in Paris of Polish parents and was brought up in Poland where he studied at National Film School in Lodz. He made several short films in Poland as well as his first feature, KNIFE IN THE WATER.
He moved to France where, with Gérard Brach, wrote the screenplays of REPULSION (1964), CUL DE SAC (1965) and THE VAMPIRE KILLERS (1967) which he later filmed in England.
In 1968 Roman Polanski went to Hollywood where he directed ROSEMARY'S BABY and CHINATOWN (1974).
On his return to France, he made many full-length films including TESS (1979), BITTER MOON (1992), THE NINTH GATE (1999), the multi-award-winning-film THE PIANIST (2002) and most recently OLIVER TWIST (2005).
He is the recipient of numerous awards including the Golden Globe, 4 Oscar nominations, the Golden Bear of Berlin, the Golden Lion of Venice, Cannes Palme d'Or for THE PIANIST, and 3 Oscars for THE PIANIST (best director, best actor Adrien Brody, and best adapted screenplay).
